That's no job for a real man.

Calvin Finn's parent's had a way of making him feel small and fragile. Those words were the last thing he heard from them since he started art school. He wanted to be a film maker. Not even his parents were going to stop that. He was determined, and most of all.. he had good people skills. Though, he didn't use them much.

A poster hung on the wall three feet from where Calvin was standing. The only reason he stopped to look at it was the fact that it had a filmstrip displayed across it.

Film Festival! Entries must be in by the end of the month!

Calvin blinked at it and took one of the registration forms held at the bottom of the poster. He grinned. In his head, he was a little school girl, squealing. He had so many ideas. It was hard to pinpoint just one.

The art school was large and in a town which had no meaning in the film business at all. It had a nice campus. The school itself was private, therefore a lot of money was required to attend. The only way Calvin was able to pay for it was through loans.

Calvin folded the entry form and put it into the back pocket of his jeans. It was time to go home and write a script. Calvin made his way back to his single dorm room. He didn't have to share with anyone. Thankfully. He was never good with the whole "sharing" thing, being an only child made kindergarten hard.

Once Calvin could sit at his desk and write something on his laptop... writer's block struck. Calvin shut his dark brown eyes and rubbed his face. He was out of ideas. He didn't know what kind of movie to make. He supposed the easiest would be an art film or music video.

Calvin had made a lot of movies. They were usually all for his classes, but he was proud of most of them. They were all short films that ranged from about three minutes... to about fifteen for some of the longer, more dramatic pieces.

Though, Calvin had a knack for coming up with plot twists for the story, he wasn't a writer. He was very good at the technical aspect of the whole process. He wanted to be a movie editor or a director. It would be his dream job. Hopefully one day he will get to move to LA and make his way in the film industry.

Calvin changed his shirt and looked in the mirror. His hair was messy from him running his hands through it (Not to mention wanting to pull it out when he got writers block.) He sighed and fixed it as best he could.

Calvin pulled out his cellphone and dialed for the only other person that could help him.. his best friend. To take his mind off of the film festival for a moment, he started taking apart one of the computers that littered his room. His lanky body fit awkwardly on the floor, but there were no other surfaces in the room.

The phone rang and rang and rang... Pick up... pick uuuup.... Calvin thought to himself. Maybe she was busy... or in a class. He hoped he wasn't disturbing anything too important.


((Okay... So.. this is rather short for an intro ._. and I realize that I didn't really explain what he looks like in any great detail.. >> So I have a picture. ))

Autumn was where she was at this time every day. Under the largest tree on campus with her guitar in her lap, playing with the strings idly. Her phone sat inside the acoustic guitar, Autumn hoped that in case she dosed off the sound would resound louder than normal so she would be able to wake up and answer. The tree was her favourite place to be when her brain was blocking her muse.

The phone went off.
"Well maybe it's not to late to see---" Autumn fumbled around with getting her phone out as quickly as possible. Her ringtone was a recording of her own voice.
"Hey mommy. How is Italy?" her parents were almost always on the other side of the planet, she only saw them four times a year depending on their schedules, it suited Autumn fine, but she missed them sometimes. Her mother and father went to the very school Autumn was currently attending, a school for the arts. Autumn was a singer, like her father, James Matthews. Almost everyone had heard of James Matthews, he was in the mainstream music scene currently on a european tour. Alison used to be a dancer, ballet. She was relatively known inside the dance industry yet she wasn't as popular as James, she didn't have the voice for a singer.

"Oh it's great honey! You should see it, Rome is absolutely gorgeous! Adelle and Adelaida are having a wonderful time. Alex of course is trying to pick up a few italian girls with some off sounding italian which sometimes fuses with french. It is quite funny to watch actually. Oh I wish you were hear darling! Oh your sister wants to say hello--" Autumn shook her head with a smile. She was the youngest in the family, in college still. Adelle and Adelaida were her sisters and Alex was her brother. Alison and James had named their first child Adelle and once Adelaida was born they said to each other 'You know we are going to have to keep the A names up so the other child won't feel left out right?' They had only counted on having Alex. Autumn was their little suprise as they say.

"HAY SQUIRT! YOU SHOULD SEE ALEX HE IS PULLING FACES AT ME RIGHT NOW AND IT IS PISSING ME OFF SO I'LL HAVE TO POSTPONE THIS CHAT TILL LATER GOOD BYE HONEY!" Adelle was always crazy. You would have to be to have your middle name the reverse of your first. Adelle Elleda Matthews. James had thought it was the cutest name a baby could have. Of course, he didn't count on Adelle saying she had no middle name all the time. It was embarassing Autumn had to admit. She had gotten the normal one out of the four even if it was still slightly kooky. Autumn Noah Matthews. Then there was Adelle Elleda, Adelaida Sydney and Alex Maximillion.

Autumn pressed the end button on her phone and put it back into her bag, her blond curls were blowing in the small wind without restraint, Autumn didn't like hair elastics, it hurt her head to wear them for some reason. Autumn picked up her guitar once more and began singing a song she had written earlier in the month.
"If you only knew that I think about you, in a kinda of secret way. I say kind of cause---" yet she was interrupted by her phone once more. One quick look at the ID and a smile came to Autumn's face. Calvin, also known to her as Calvin Klein, mainly because she detested his last name, Finn. It reminded her too much of To Kill A Mockingbird.

"Hey you! How's it going?" Autumn said, resting her arm in the curve of the guitar. "It seems like nothing went right today. Mr. Simons practically yelled at my today about my vocal range, saying it was out of tune along with my outfit. I promise you he has no right to tell me what to wear with that shirt." Autumn said, venting slightly to her best friend. Oh how it annoyed her that someone actually went and shot their mouth off over something as trivial as clothes. Just because Autumn didn't pick out her best clothes out of her wardrobe that morning. She wanted to be comfortable, practicality over fashion yeah?

"Anyway, what's up?" her film fanatic friend often called her, it was what friends did, they often talked about their own talents, his filming and her music, she wrote songs and performed them whenever possible, she also liked to watch Calvin film, she enjoyed it but sometimes when he moved the camera onto her she would turn red. She didn't like being on screen if she wasn't singing. "I was just trying to think, you know where to find me if you want to come and talk in person so it doesn't cost you minutes." Autumn said with a smile.

Ooc: Lol. I added history in there, hope you don't mind the parts of history between her and Calvin, if you hate it, just go "NUH. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. >D RAWR." and I'll change it lol.

Calvin listened to Autumn with a smile on his face. "I'm sure that he was just looking for things to rag on you about. He'll calm down. I bet he just didn't get his morning latte," Calvin chuckled as he removed part of the computer which now sat in his lap. He began to meticulously clean it and then - only when he had finished - could it go back into the machine.

"In person sounds good... I'll be there in a few... just gotta change... again. Stupid dirty computers." Calvin looked at the shirt he just put on. There was a big dirt swipe across it. "See ya." He said, as he always did when ending a phone call.

He closed his phone and stood up. Stupid computer. He went to his closet and found a white shirt. That would have to do. He put on his paperboy hat and grabbed his keys and laptop before leaving the room. He couldn't go anywhere without that thing.

Calvin made sure the door was locked before walking to Autumn's favourite location on campus. He approached her and invited himself to sit. "Alright. So... there's a film festival coming up." he started in immediately - as was the way of it.

"I have no idea what to make... but it dawned on me... that if I were to do a music video.. or something..." Calvin paused and took off his hat. He scratched the back of his head. "You wanna do a music video?" he chuckled slightly. He knew that Autumn didn't like being in front of the camera.. but the camera loved her. Those blonde curls looked beautiful on camera. He grinned.

Autumn just nodded when Calvin made a comment about computers. She didn't know much about them other than how to turn it on and use the internet. Autumn wasn't very computer savvy, technology in general wasn't very fond of her.

The guitar was being played without much care for composition. It was just being played to pass time with no real meaning to it. Mindless strumming. In some parts the note didn't sound quite right with had had been previously played but she refused to retrace her steps and make it sound right.

As Calvin approached she placed her hand over the strings to stop the vibrations and the sound. Calvin began immediatly which made her smile once more, cutting to the chase was the way of the world, no time for a hello first. Though they had said their greetings over the find minutes earlier. Autumn listened intently to what Calvin was saying.

"Well. Being in a film isn't the best idea of fun, but since it is for a film festival, I'm sure I can do it for you, if it is that important." Autumn replied as he laughed. She said yes not only for the reason she had said, but because she wanted to spite Calvin and prove she could be on camera without hating it.

"Do you want to pick which song or should I?" Autumn asked. Despite being a talented musician, which she had to be to come to the music part of the school, Autumn was always apprehensive about her music. She didn't like to boast about her music, afraid of being seen as snooty.

Calvin grinned. He was glad that Autumn had agreed. “It’ll just be a music video. You’ll be singing the whole time you’re on camera… It’ll be fine,” he said. Calvin crossed his legs as he sat facing Autumn. He had an idea of what he wanted to do now.

“I.. you can pick the song. You know I think all of your music is good.” Calvin opened his laptop and turned it on. He had to write down a few ideas for his movie. “The festival due date is in a month… I think we should have enough time by then… If we film it quickly.” Calvin shrugged.

“We’re also going to have to get studio time so we can record the song in the version you want to use it in..” Calvin rambled on. He closed his mouth. “I’m rambling again… I’m sorry. I am excited to be able to film you.”

Calvin really did love to film Autumn, she was wonderfully photogenic, even if she didn’t think so. Calvin had a feeling that he was going to be in hot water with the girl he had been dating for the last few months though. She never seemed to take a liking to Autumn. This next month would be hard, since he would be spending even more time with Autumn, and less with Eva. Eva already thought he was cheating on her. Calvin pushed these thoughts away.

"If you say so." Autumn said simply, raising her hands in the air in surrender. He had always given her compliments which she thought were never quite true. "Well. Perhaps 'You Belong With Me' could be the best one. I have been playing that one a lot lately so I guess the more I play it the better it sounds. What do you think?" Autumn wrote her songs based on what she went through in real life. What she would never admit to is that You Belong With Me was about Calvin and Eva.

"A month is plenty of time. And if the studio is too packed then I can always ask dad if he can pull some strings over at his studio." Autumn said clapping, she was getting excited about Calvin being excited. A people pleaser was what some people would call Autumn, she never liked to do something for herself if it made someone else unhappy. When it came to Eva, Autumn normally wanted to run away just so she would be happy (not to mention Autumn would be happy to get away from her). Eva seemed quite cold hearted, she was a bitch from what Autumn saw. Eva seemed to want Autumn outside of Calvin's relationship circle, like Autumn was in some loop that the poor girl wasn't in.

Even if Eva didn't like Autumn and Calvin spending time filming, she would have to get over it because Autumn wouldn't back down just because Eva was jealous. While she was a people pleaser, Autumn wouldn't stand for bitches. There were multiple personalities surrounding Autumn.
"Now, do you want to start concept mapping now or do have to be somewhere soon? I don't so whenever is fine with me." smiled Autumn. Soon her voice played from her phone and she held up a finger as she answered it. "Adelaida, I can't talk right now. Yeah, it's great that you twisted Alex's arm, show him who's boss, but right now I am busy. Call me later tonight." Autumn said as she rushed to hang up.

"Addie's being... Addie as usual." Autumn said as she hung up. Her phone often rang from her family checking up on her. Being alone on one continent while the rest of your immediate family was on another seemed to be significant even if it happened alot when Autumn was younger.

Calvin searched his mind for Eva's plans for the evening.

"You Belong With Me," he repeated. "I like that one. It'll be easy to make a music video for too. We can get like... Justin and Cam to be the couple in it.. and you can look heartsick through it..." Calvin let out a small chuckle. "I'm sure they'd be....." he paused as heheard his laptop get threehundred offline IM's. He really should make that thing stop automatically signing in.

Of course they were all from Eva.

Eva: Cal, don't forget to pick up your pills... You have to sleep tonight.
Eva: Don't forget our date tonight. I know you will.
Eva: You should really answer me once in a while.
Eva: Why do you never pick up your phone?


Calvin shook his head and closed the window. "What was I saying?" he asked. Eva was getting on his nerves recently... but he couldn't help but want to be with her. He had nobody else... and in some sick way, he felt like he deserved the torture.

"I am not doing anything tonight... not until.. well.. 8-ish. I am supposed to go out with Eva later," Calvin shrugged. "It's apparently our five month anniversary thing... Not sure why five months should be a big deal." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"Though, I think that we can run through some story ideas until then," Calvin looked around. "You wanna go to your room? Mine? Somewhere that is less... open so we can talk better?" He shrugged. He liked the indoors. He was strange.

"Or, I mean we can stay here if you want," Calvin shrugged again.

[Breezy]

"Sounds good" Autumn said. "They would be perfect!" Autumn already had a vision of it in her head but then again it wasn't her artistic vision they were going to capture. It was Calvins. Either way Autumn was just honored that Calvin wanted to shoot her in the first place. When he made it big in Hollywood one day, which Autumn knew would happen, she would tell everyone that he used her in a film festival. The laptop sounded and Autumn's face fell. It was obvious that Autumn was upset that even when she wasn't there Eva still managed to steal Calvins attention back.

In Autumn's mind, Eva wouldn't ever be good enough for Calvin, heck, she wouldn't even be good enough for some freshman still in high school. That was the extent of Autumn's dislike for the woman. Autumn would have yelled at Calvin if he had voiced his thoughts that he had no one else. Her yelling probably would have consisted of 'what are you? BLIND?' and 'You seriously don't understand girls!' things along those lines. It was apparent Calvin didn't really get the jist of what a majority of her songs were about. Autumn had told him she wrote of real life experiences but did he ever but it together that some songs were about him? It infuriated her at times but she kept it inside all the same, rejection wasn't something she handled well.

"Ah... Eva." Autumn said, her voice was always slightly icey compared to her normal cheery composition when it came to the troublesome girlfriend. "Five months shouldn't be big. It's one month, three months, six months then a year and every year after that." What Autumn didn't say was that she expected that Eva would expect flowers and a present if she knew Eva, which to a certain extent, she didn't. Eva just seemed like that kind of girlfriend.

"No no! We can go inside. We'll go to my room, I have my music there and everything." Autumn said as she stood up, patting her pocket to make sure she had her phone still and slid the guitar around her neckand to her side. Without waiting for Calvin she began her walk to her room. "You know what is weird? That when it is the parent away overseas it doesn't seem like a big deal but then when you leave the youngest behind it is like you have to check on them constantly. Any theories on this?" Autumn asked, spinning around to face Calvin.

Calvin quickly closed his laptop and shoved it in the bag he brought it in. Autumn had gone ahead. He would have to catch up. He stood and walked quickly to catch up to her.

If Calvin knew what her songs were really about, he hid it really well. Sure, she said they were about real life occurrences...things that happened to her... but Calvin would never have thought that any of them could be about him.

He had thought that he liked Autumn. She was pretty, smart, funny.. He was never good enough for her, he guessed. His crush on her withered while they were still in high school. He didn't think that she ever noticed him that way... especially when he became her best friend. After that, Calvin gave up hope. He would never have guessed her songs were about him. He was not special enough to be that person.

Calvin smiled at Autumn. "I think it's separation anxiety," he said, chuckling. "I mean... they wish they could be with you more. Their baby girl has grown up.." He grinned and shrugged.

"Ooh! I have a new movie! I just finished it. I'll have to show it to you after we're done talking about the film festival." He grinned. His head was full of ideas for filming. He wished that he could just rush into filming Autumn. It was going to take some self-restraint not to carry a camera around just to get her used to it before they actually filmed anything.

"You sure you're going to be okay with me filming you?" he asked playfully.

It seemed like circle Calvin and Autumn were moving in. While Calvin had originally liked her, she hadn't, and now that Autumn liked Calvin... he had lowered himself down to below what he thought she deserved. Autumn had seen Calvin's like of her, and when she began to notice it was then she began to like him.

"Separation anxiety is horrible! I means they never leave me alone! I am an adult now yet they don't let me be independant." It sounded odd coming from Autumn who basically lived of her father while at college, she still liked to think that her part time job was getting her somewhere fiancially. "A new movie? I can't wait? What's it about? You can't leave me hanging after you tell me, I can't resist." It amazed Autumn that someone could have a talent for movie making as Calvin.

"Sure. If your that worried about me flipping out and throwing your camera out the window just tape a camera to your hand and we can practise." Autumn smirked, almost reading Calvin's mind. Soon they turned into a hallway and the second room down was Autumn's room, she brought out the key from her pocket and unlocked the door.

"After you." Autumn said, moving her arm in a fluid motion to point for Calvin to enter the room. It was pretty neat inside, a double bed, a desk and a small television that Autumn had brought in. Several guitars were resting on stands. There was a medium sized book case crammed into a corner, the room would have been somewhat large yet Autumn wanted her space if she was going to be sleeping in this place for several years. There was a small amount of walking space in the room yet the was enough to reach everything. Autumn rested the guitar she had been using just before on it's stand and picked up a box from under the bed. It was her archive of songs she had written.

Calvin followed Autumn to her dorm room, poking fun at her for not liking to be on camera. She had no reason to be. She was incredibly photogenic.

“I am not telling about my movie before we watch it. I want you to see it first… then tell me what you think about the story. It is a little weird, so you’ll have to bare with it.” Calvin chuckled. “I need to know if you, having no prior knowledge, will understand what’s going on.”

Calvin walked close to Autumn the whole way to her dorm. It was a friendly distance, not as if he had his arm around her or anything. He just liked being close to her. He went into her room and took his shoes off, plopping down in his usual spot at the head of her bed. He leaned against her pillows and watched her get the song box out.

“There should be a shot of you going through the box…” he said absently trying to throw some ideas around about the movie they would have to make. Calvin took out his laptop and opened it. He turned it on as he shifted his legs under it. “Oooh, and maybe there’s a picture of you two together in the box or something…”

Calvin only saw one flaw with that plan. He’d have to take pictures of Justin and Autumn together. “Except, we’d have to do an extra step… taking pictures of you and Justin being best-friends!” He chuckled. The only other solution he could think of would be putting himself in the movie in place of Justin. He would get Justin to film… and there were plenty of pictures of Calvin and Autumn together. He didn’t suggest that. Autumn might not go for it. He shrugged and typed some of his ideas out, quickly.

Autumn pouted, she didn't like suprised which was probably why she read what happened in every movie she saw before she went to the theatre. "Pwease Calvin? Just tell me about the characters?" she tried her best smile on him. After she got her box Autumn put it on the bed and climbed over Calvin's legs and sat with her back against the wall, her legs stretched over Calvin's it was a comfortable position for the young woman.

Looking at Calvin with one eyebrow raised, Autumn just reached for the box again.
"Maybe. If it ain't too corny." Autumn said trying to picture it. Her reaching under the bed for her box of secret obsession over the boy she couldn't have. All too realistic. "A picture would be good, but it would have to kind of be a light and airy photo in a garden or something to give it a nature feel instead of just buildings everywhere." Autumn was a bit of a nature girl, she liked everything nature had to offer, buildings sometimes felt like a cage for her. It was the complete opposite of Calvin who loved the indoors.

"And what about Justin and I playing one on one sport or something and then she comes along and is like 'Uh... nuh. Come here honey! No playing sport for you!'?" Autumn said before biting her tounge, afterall it was Calvin's video. She was just the main character taking direction from the person who would run it.

"It isn't THAT hard to take a photo with two people with their arms around each other with bright happy faces. One of them looks like she is trying to make it look like it's more than friends and the other completely unaware of it." Autumn laughed. Just thinking about it made her laugh, remembering one time she had done that in a picture with Calvin back when her 'crush' had first taken effect. Autumn was a teenager back then though, a wild teen who liked everything to look perfect in case they would look at it in the future. Now it didn't matter so much how her photos looked.

"Maybe you could even have a cameo! Director cameos are really hot right now." laughing at how silly she sounded, Autumn was getting pretty excited about it.

Calvin chuckled lightly. “Could be,” he said at her suggestion. He shrugged and rubbed his face. He looked back at the computer.

Four new IMs. Again. Calvin didn’t even read them this time. He was busy. He closed out of the window and signed off of MSN, thankfully, Eva couldn’t bother him if he was logged in. There was something about her obsessive checking up on him that got right under his skin.

Calvin shook the feeling away and looked at Autumn. “Or, now that you mention it. We have a picture exactly like what I was thinking of. Why don’t I just play the part Justin would have. He can film it.” Calvin shrugged his shoulders.

He pulled up the notepad again and wrote some more short scenes down. “Last I checked, Justin was trying to get into the filming business anyway. Though, he really is just good at everything…” Calvin shrugged. “Bastard.” He joked. Justin was probably his second-best friend on campus.

A few more ideas popped into Calvin’s head. He was going to need two cameras. He’d need a fifth person. Oh well, they were easy enough to find. Calvin was glad he could edit film on his laptop. With this film festival coming up, he would have to get the lab booked weeks in advance… but he bought the program that the laboratory computers had and put it on his laptop. He chuckled.

“Oh, do you want to watch the movie now, or I guess we could wait for a little while longer…” He pushed at Autumn’s arm playfully. He wanted to torture her as much as possible with the waiting. It was worth it, in his opinion.

While Autumn couldn't see the screen or that Calvin was annoyed at her constant 'checking up' on him Autumn would have agreed in a heartbeat. The two had once come across paths when Calvin wasn't there, Eva had made it clear of Autumn's closeness to Calvin to which Autumn had responded 'Well if you didn't keep such a tight leash he might be close.' which told Eva of her own dislike for the girlfriend. Since then they played a game of who could piss off first whenever Calvin was around.

"That wouldn't be so bad! Then again. Is your acting up to scratch as mine is?" Autumn said, putting the back of her hand to her forhead dramatically. Autumn quickly got up and crawled up to the head of the bed next to Calvin and reached below the bed with her tounge sticking out, straining her arms to reach the photo album underneath. A lot of items were kept under her bed, some personal and others not so personal, the album was kept there so it was accessible to Autumn. Finally she brought the album up from the underside of the bed and settled next to Calvin. "Here we are! Aw. Look at that! Didn't you take that?" Autumn said opening to the first page where a picture of Autumn was singing on a swing in a park somewhere in the city. The next picture on the page was a close up of Calvin and Autumn, obviously crammed together so one of them could take the photo without missing a ear of the other. Autumn's hair were still in their curls and the outfit from both pictures were the same, indicating it was the same day.

"We have so much fun with a camera!" Autumn exlcaimed, laughing at the next one where there was a slightly blury picture of Calvin standing all and mighty next to a building that appeared small compared to him. "Calvin the Giant!" Autumn exclaimed before falling into laughter. "My photographic skills are horrible! Your all blury..." she said pointing.

"Ooh! Movie now PUH-lease!" she exclaimed with begging hands, she liked to act like a child in times like these when it wasn't serious, it was quite hilarious. It was obvious to her that Calvin was trying to hold out on the movie. "Come ooooon. You know you want to show me! Your just trying to build it up." Autumn winked. The photo album was momentarily forgotten in Autumn's hands as she stared at Calvin's laptop intensly.

Calvin watched as Autumn grabbed the photo album. He hadn’t seen that thing in ages. They weren’t often this sentimental about their pictures. They went through them, Autumn – being Autumn – commented on all of them. Calvin merely sat and watched her pour over the pictures.

The strongest urge to touch her hair washed over Calvin. He shook the thought away as she said something about her photography skills. “My, my. They are atrocious.” He said tsk-tsking her as he bopped her on the nose with his forefinger. He chuckled and went back to watching Autumn’s merriment.

“I like the one of us just squished together in the small frame… and of course my acting skills are up to scratch. I could act you into a corner,” He said, chuckling. It was really nice to be able to just sit and not have to worry about anything.

Calvin always felt like himself around Autumn. He didn’t feel like he had to put on a show for the girl… she liked him for who he was, not who she could make him. He was so glad.

Calvin scooted closer to Autumn and rested the laptop on both of their laps. He turned the movie into a full screen event and smiled. “Alright, you have to be honest though. You’ve gotta tell me if you don’t get it … or if it’s stupid, kay?” he asked. “Promise?” Calvin waited for his response, before hitting the play button.
