Turnabout Pokemon

"Greetings again! This is your favorite reporter, Gabby Lots, reporting for PokeMTV! And today, we turn the lens on trainer Seth Zen, an up and coming trainer from out very own Hoenn region! And rest assured this trainer has grown in strength."

"So, we meet again, hm?"
"I never thought it would be under these circumstances, though."

"Now, Seth, is it true that you've defeated your arch rival to the race to the Elite Four yet?" The microphone turned to a youthful figure, grinning, yet obviously nervous about being interviewed, despite this being one of the several times it has occurred.
"Well, we've both got the final badge, it's just a race through Victory Road now!" his voice shook slightly as he spoke, but it still held a strong feeling behind it that was admirable.
"So, what are your feelings about it? We're standing here on the shores of Ever Grande City, and it looks like you're ready to go."

"So, it's done now, right?"
"Yeah, no going back. It's all mine, now."
"What?! Liar! You said you wouldn't...!"
"Wouldn't what? Now that you handed THIS over to me, why would I give it back?"
"No! I won't let you take it! Not for your dirty organization, not anything!"
"Gah!"

"Well, I sure am, Gabby."
"Good to hear! So, got any words for your rival before you head off?"
"Yeah, I do." His sharp eyes narrowed, shining bright, the zebra print in his iris glinting in the bright sunshine.
"You better watch out, my man! I'm going to beat you!"

"I'll NEVER let you do this!"
"N-No! Please! Ivysaur, Swellow, any of you! Help!"

"I may look like the underdog at this point, but my Pokemon got more power, more heart than yours! And mark my words..."

"Now, use Fire Blast!"
"Ah! My Pokemon! You... you killed them all! You got what you want, just... just leave me alone!"
"No! You're not getting out of Victory Road alive!"

"I'm going to survive! And I'll beat the Elite Four and become the next Champion..."

"Use Crunch!"
"Aaaaaaah-!"
"You're dying tonight, my friend..."

Crunch. Thud.

"... Even if it kills me!"

Oh, great.

Giving a sigh, Phoenix adjusted his tie, looking to the flight attendant, who handed him his on-flight "meal", consisting of a bag of trail mix, a can of Sprite, and a bag of cookies.
"Thanks..." he replied, popping open the bag of trail mix almost immediately, taking out a few peanuts and tossing them into his mouth, looking back down the file on his tray table, papers messily stuffed into the little portfolio. Frowning, Phoenix almost immediately went for the soda, seeing as whoever salted the peanuts for this batch of trail mix was a little too enthusiastic with the salt shaker. So just WHY was Phoenix Wright, ace attorney of (some) renown, traveling to a part of the world he wasn't entirely, well, knew existed? Well, loneliness could drive people to do some crazy things, and Phoenix was no exception. With Maya intensifying her training, and Pearl going alongside her, the office could get rather empty, the books gathering dust as Phoenix waited for his next case to come along so he could pay the bills and eat something other than ramen noodles for dinner every now and then. And one could only clean the toilet so many times before even that got boring.

So, here he was, 'adopting' a rookie. No, not adopting. Phoenix snickered softly at the thought, taking a sip of his soda as he looked over the contents of the file again. Just taking his prospective greenhorn under his wing for a bit, teach 'em the ropes, and go on a few cases, then return home. Plus, the lodgings and everything was paid for, something that really helped convince Nick's inner cheapskate they should go. Besides, wasn't getting out of the country on every "Things to Do before You Die" list? Well, at least he could get this one crossed off. However, now that he got to really look through the fat documents they sent him, Phoenix was getting a little... oh, anxious, maybe?
"What the hell is this...?" He muttered under his breath, eying a picture of what looked like a mutant chicken, beneath that being a picture of a mutated chameleon.
"Pokemon..." Nick read the title aloud to himself quietly, before turning the page, revealing a small map of the Hoenn region, as well as a larger description of what Pokemon are. Creatures much like those from... "But with abilities such as fire breathing, psychic powers, and earthquakes...?" Cocking an eyebrow, Phoenix took another gulp of soda. Oi, these didn't sound like something he wanted to be running into. Flipping the page, Phoenix's eyebrow raised higher at the sight of these said beasts of destructive powers happily prancing about with kids, and even helping people move stuff into their houses. Oh, the wonders of man, being able to tame things like this. Turning the page again, Nick continued to read, filling himself in on the world of Pokemon during most of the in-flight movie. It was an odd feeling, knowing there was a place like this around, but Nick couldn't help but admit being able to see a place where this was true, and this wasn't a tourist trap.

"Mm...?" Turning the page, Phoenix caught site of a photo of a young man, in his late teens by the look of it, with short black liberty spikes and an eyebrow piercing, the tiny bulbs in the form of odd red and white balls. He was grinning broadly, and looked like a mix of a nice guy and a fan of some vague rock band, with his white dress shirt (minus sleeves) and black slacks, a hand resting on a studded belt, which had several larger red and white balls. However, the most notable thing about him was that his eyes were far from normal, matching with the black-and-white theme he had, by from what Phoenix could tell, having black and white irises.
"Seth Zen is a graduate of his home town of Mauville, after having moved from another region due to a divorce... has a name in a race to be Champion against Lief Theaves... earned several badges, donated time and money into our prestigious school in between traveling to obtain Gym Badges..." Nick snorted, and shook his head. Oh, well that's why he was in here! Probably giving the kid some credit for forking over some cash to the school, and he probably wouldn't ask the kids to pay him for an interview.

"Attention passengers, we will be landing shortly, please put on your seatbelts in case of turbulence..."

Looking up as the seatbelt signal dinged, it set off a bell in Phoenix's mind as well. He was so busy reading up on the place he was going to, he forgot to read up on the people he was going to meet, too. Giving a nervous gulp, Phoenix clicked on his seatbelt, and spent the last ten minutes of his flight cramming on the school and the person he was supposed to be spending the grand total of six days with, his plane leaving on the seventh.

Sunday, April 4th, 10:05 am
Mauville International Airport

The landing was fairly smooth, and Phoenix hoped he could remember all he stuffed in at the last minute as he stuffed the files into his briefcase, nervously preening himself a final time before walking off of the plane, his black hair as spiky as ever, his attorney's badge proudly perched on his suit. Taking his turn in the shuffling line, Phoenix exited out of the plane and into the airport, and was almost immediately greeted by the site of those strange creatures. An oversized dragonfly... two prancing little mouse creatures... even what looked like an armored dragon! Nick stared with an almost shocked fascination, much like the other tourists, making it easy for the valet picking him up to find.
"Excuse me! Are you Mr. Wright, yes, yes?" a middle-aged man asked, running over to Phoenix, adjusting his bowtie almost compulsively, despite the fact it looked like his frizzy gray hair looked like it needed to be cared for rather than his bowtie.
"Yes I am, Mr...?" Phoenix awkwardly stretched an arm out in greeting, earning a enthusiastic, two handed shake back.
"Yesii! Yesii Chatts, nice to meet you, yes!" grabbing Phoenix's hand, he dragged the lawyer off.
"Come, there's much to tell you, and you must first get your stuff first, yes?"
"Yeah..." Phoenix agreed much less enthusiastically.
Do I really have to get carted around by this guy all day? Nick thought to himself, and seriously began hoping he didn't. After all, that guy talked a little too fast for his tastes, and his hyper-enthusiasm over almost everything was a little disturbing.

"I'm sure you have many questions, yes?" Yesii asked, picking up Phoenix's luggage, the darker colors standing out against Yesii's lily green sweater vest, which looked like it still held static from the wash.
"Uh, yeah, just when are we going to meet the, uh, other lawyers?" Phoenix asked, cringing when they reached the doors, his luggage simply tossed into the trunk of a taxi, before being almost literally forced in by the man, whistling for the cab to start moving.
"Ah, the kids, yes! I'm one of their professors, you know." Yesii said, wiggling his caterpillar-esque eyebrows at Phoenix.
Professor of what? Probably the art of talking so fast it confuses the witnesses. Phoenix thought to himself, but held back from talking, seeing as it appeared Mr. Chatts planned on doing most of the talking for the ride.
"Well, yes, the kids are ready to start on their own, yes? Fly away from the nest, so to speak. So we've organized you to meet your paired rookie this morning, when the cab reaches the school, yes. And you read you get to take on the cases we let them choose, yes...?" Yesii cocked a large eyebrow at Phoenix, who laughed nervously and nodded.
"Yes, yes. I mean, yeah, I did." Phoenix agreed, casting a glance out the window, thankful when he saw a bright white banner with the words "WELCOME LAWYERS" (somewhat ironic from Phoenix's view) in front of an old looking school.

Time: 10:15 am
Mauville University, West Campus

"Well, time to meet your rookie, yes?" Yesii asked, before laughing merrily as the taxi halted by the school, letting Phoenix escape from the car with his things intact.
"I'll be seeing you around, yes, Mr. Wright!" Yesii called, and almost as quickly as he talked, his was gone, dissolving amongst the relatively small crowds.
"Well, that's just great..." Phoenix mumbled to himself, looking around the school courtyard, before finally bringing himself over to the "GREETING" section, hoping he'd be able to hopefully find his rookie there, and possibly the location where he could put his stuff down.

Hm.

... How could she have let her coffee get cold? She looked down at the paper cup in her right hand unhappily. With a small turn of the wrist, she caused the dark liquid to move in slow circles. Her left hand moved to brush the light brown bangs that fell to the right of her face out of her eyes. The rest of her hair was pulled into a spiky bun. Dark brown eyes glanced over at the small group which was across the room.
[ooc]Think Adrian’s hair from The Stolen Turnabout. ^^ [/ooc]

On her right shoulder sat a small parrot with a navy blue musical note shaped head. White ruffle-like feathers circled is neck as it preened its pink wings. The bird’s belly was half yellow and half blue. Soon it had ended and was randomly tilting its head as it watched the people. It squawked at the human a couple times, an attempt to get her to move towards the crowd, but the woman did not reply.

One of the bird’s pink feathers fell onto the human’s vest before it was picked off by her left hand and released to float to the ground. The vest she wore was black and grey pinstripe, while her pants were a normal black. Under her vest, she wore a white dress shirt, the sleeves reaching halfway between her shoulder and elbow. The brand new Attorney’s badge she had just received was pinned to her vest, above her heart.

The woman’s left hand reached into her pocket, counting the five Pokeballs inside. They were all accounted for. Good. Looking down for that brief moment, the bird sitting on her shoulder had managed to loosen her badge, and proceeded to take it and begin to fly away. “H-Hey! Get back here!” The human called after the bird, who had decided to ignore her.

Before she had the chance to go after the bird, she was abruptly grabbed by the wrist. “Hey! What are you doing?” There was no reply, and she was dragged across the room, by her luck, she was trying not to fall as she stumbled backwards. “Your mentor is here, yes?” She sighed, although she couldn’t see the stupid Pokemon who had taken her badge. “Yeah. That’s great and all, but-” She was cut off, “No, no. This is more important, yes?” The woman sighed.

It wasn’t much longer before they were stopped. Of course, she was still moving backwards and was suddenly turned around. “Huh?” Her head was still spinning, and she hadn’t figured out where that stupid bird had gone. Blinking twice, she regained her senses. Her hands settled onto her hips after flicking her bangs out of her eyes a second time. The crazy professor who had dragged her over here had disappeared… Great.

‘…

Uhm… Ak… ward?’

He had left her standing in front of someone who she had never met before and was probably supposed to introduce herself to. With a quick glance up, she found something she had been looking for. The Pokemon who had been sitting on her shoulder earlier was now perched on his head, attempting to chew on her badge. “Get down from there…!” she muttered under her breath, causing the bird to look down at her and squawk again.

“Chat. Chatot~?”

She shot the bird a Don’tThinkIWon’tKillYou glance as it continued to play with her Attorney’s badge atop the man’s head. Her eyes closed for a moment, trying to plot how she would a) remove the bird, and b) get the badge back. With one movement, she was able to snatch the bird and hold it in her hand, prying the badge out of its mouth. The Pokemon squawked angrily at the woman, trying to nibble her fingers in an attempt to get her to let go.

‘… There.’ She reaffixed her Attorney’s badge back onto her vest where she had it pinned before. It took a moment before it was to her standards. As centered as possible and in the exact place it had been taken from. The bird proceeded to climb up her arm and back onto her shoulder, clicking its beak unhappily and trying to smooth out its feathers.

“… She can be such a bother…” The human commented, the parrot on her shoulder making another attempt to chew on the woman’s hand.

‘…. Uhm…. I’m supposed to say…

Something…

Else…

Right…?’

“Oh. Uhm. I’m Kira…” She offered her hand to shake. “And this is Ellie.” Her other hand motioned to the Pokemon on her shoulder, who was chirping things that she had learned to say.

“Hold it, Hold it~!”

[ooc] Yay. Finally done. ^^ Ellie is a shiny Chatot. ^^ [/ooc]

Now, beside the fact that Phoenix was totally new to this place, it seemed that he stood out like a sore thumb more than the others, to be precise. Looking around, awkwardly holding a cup of coffee in a styrofoam cup (probably one of the few things he felt like he recognized here) and one of his bags on the ground beside him.He gazed around, looking from person to person, most all of them with those strange balls on them somewhere, much like the young lad in that interview thing. And, apparently, as Phoenix watched with amazement, they appeared to simply keep their... ani-, no, Pokemon, inside there! And the fact that most all the lawyers, well, appeared to know at least a little more than Phoenix on the matter wasn't exactly the best of feelings.

"Mm?" Watching what looked like the illegitimate baby of a parrot and a musical note fly from the one of the smaller crowds of what looked like some of the professors and the few unpaired rookies, and it took a moment before Phoenix realized that it was heading towards him. Trying not to freak out, Nick took a long gulp of his coffee, pretending to pay no attention to the freakish bird, only to have it settle upon his head.
Great, just GREAT. Phoenix thought to himself, forcing himself to swallow the mouthful of coffee he had, however he tossed the rest into the nearest garbage can to him, suddenly not feeling very thirsty.
Maybe if I stay really still, it'll go away. Phoenix thought to himself, becoming still as stone in fear that this... this musical bird thing was going to attempt to peck a hole through his head. However, after a moment of listening, it sounded... well, it sounded like it was busy fiddling with something else. Listening to it squawk, Nick turned, looking to someone who was currently giving the bird a death glare.
"Uh, is this... yours?" Phoenix asked weakly, but really meant something along the lines of, 'please get this thing off me'.

Easing once the pesky parrot-thing was removed from his cranium, Phoenix watched as she put something back onto her vest, realizing that her bird was fiddling with her badge.
"Oh, I bet she can." Phoenix agreed, but in a borderline wry mannerism, a dense feeling of awkwardness falling over him and the rookie like a heavy blanket, only penetrated when she finally introduced herself and her bird. Nick couldn't help but smile in amusement when it started to squawk, the bird reminding him of a certain prosecutor he usually ends up going against every so often with it screechy tone of voice.
"Nice to meet you, Kira." Nick said, holding out his hand to shake hers, something clicking in his mind as he did. His grin widened, looking a bit more relieved, something from that small timespan of cramming coming through in his mind.
"Heh, well, at least that gets rid of the task in finding you." Phoenix said with a blend between a laugh and a sigh of relief, "I'm Phoenix, Phoenix Wright. I believe I'm going to be your, erm, tutor of sorts...?" Phoenix asked, trailing off slightly as he spoke, glancing around as if making sure he was talking to the right person and saying the right things before continuing.
"Uh, I also hear you picked out the case you want to do... how about we talk about it while you show me where my lodgings are?" Nick suggested, trying to get as many birds killed with one stone as he could. Besides, his baggage was getting heavy, and he was admittedly pretty curious about what sort of case this... well, somewhat eccentric rookie would take on as her first case, though he doubted it'd be too big.

'Wright. Phoenix Wright. Gotta remember that. ... Although if I really mess it up, I can just teach Ellie to mimmic it for me...' She thought, shaking his hand, but she had expected to train her Chatot to say the name, even if she didn't need it.

He had brought up a point she had yet to think too much about. The case. Of course she had heard about it on the news. Up and coming trainer Lief Theaves had been brutally murdered by someone's Pokemon, although it looked like the Pokemon hadn't been wild. Not many people hadn't heard of him before, but he was much less popular with the public than his rival, Seth Zen.

But he had been found dead just a few days ago, near the exit of Victory Road and the beginning of the Elite Four challenge. The boy had done an interview with PokeMTV less than a week before this had happened. He expressed his desire to defeat the Eilte Four before his rival, and that he was going to be the next Champion. As Kira thought about this, Ellie began to talk again.

"Objection! Objection!"

Her thouhts shifted to the first question Phoenix has posed. '...Hm. Should we wait here for a bit and stay here, or should we go straight for Ever Grande? It's convenient either way, and Ever Grande would put us closer to the crime scene...' Kira thought to herself, trying to choose logically. It would be easier to go to Ever Grande, and she did have a Pokemon that could take care of Phoenix's bags...

Again she reached into her pocket, now holding two Pokeballs in her hand. The two she held were Pokemon that were suitable to fly, even across the ocean, to reach their destination if they chose to do so. But if it was easier to stay in Mauville, that would be acceptable to her as well.

"... That would depend. Would you rather stay in town or head to Ever Grande, where the case happened?" She asked, slipping the two Pokeballs out of her pocket, "But if we do decide on Ever Grande... would you be up to flying?"

"Quite a talented little bird you have there. Probably be good in court." Phoenix commented as Ellie squawked, grinning at the thought of how surprised the prosecutors back home would be with a creature like this mimicking their usual battle cries. Turning from the bird, Nick watched as Kira slipped her hand into her pocket, revealing several more orbs.
"Uh... just what are those, exactly?" Phoenix asked sheepishly, lightly poking one of the balls in her hand, staring at them with some fascination.
"Pokieorbs or something, right?" realizing that Kira had asked him a question, Phoenix cleared his throat, muttering an apology for getting off track.
"Well, I just want to set my things down first-"
"Your things, yes!"
Phoenix's stomach sunk slightly at the sound of the eccentric professor, who had suddenly returned with a pile of suitcases on a cart being pushed along by two of those mutated chameleons he had seen.
"Yeah, I wanted to put them away..." Phoenix said weakly, watching as the man grabbed up his luggage (save for Phoenix's precious briefcase, of course) and tossed it un-lovingly upon the pile, one of the lizard beasts sticking a label number on his stuff, before the two carted it away.
"Yes, I just came by to give you the directions to the police office, yes. They're holding your client there as we speak." Offering something that looked fresh off the press, Phoenix took it, barely able to offer a thanks before Chatts began talking again.
"And we're so proud of our dear Kira, yes! Taking on a murder as the first case, even. Not every day you want your first case to rest on someone's life, yes?" And in traditional style, before Phoenix could ask any more, Yesii had dissolved into the crowds, snatching up more luggage for all.

Whirling around to face Kira, he gave her an 'are you serious?' look.
"You picked a murder trial for us to do?" he asked, suddenly feeling thankful he brought his Magatama with him. Sighing, Phoenix shook his head.
"Oh, well. Now that my stuff's gone, I guess there's nothing else left to do than either go see the client or the crime scene." looking around, seeing the crowds slowly disperse in crowds, Phoenix turned back to Kira.
"How about we go meet this murder suspect of yours first? You can fill me in on who he is and why on earth you chose his murder case as your first real trial." Nick suggested.

[ooc] ... I just read through this again... I'm sorry about my fail grammar and spelling. >.>;; [/ooc]

Kira smiled slightly as Phoenix mentioned Ellie. "Oh, she could, I guess, but she can get really annoying too." It wa true tat the bird could scream it head off with things like 'Objection!' 'Take That!' and 'Hold It!', but she would often say things at odd times. And this was no exception.

"Take That! Take That!"

'... Shut up...!' Ellie had begun to flail as she sqawked, narrowly missing Kira's head with her wings. "Hey! Stop that!" The Chatot tilted her head at the trainer's scolding, as if she realized she had done something wrong.

"Chat. Chatot~?"

"Huh?" Kira had been paying enough attention to Ellie that she had almost missed Phoenix's question. "These?" She held out her hand with the Pokeballs, "They're called Pokeballs." She would've gone into more detail, but the elusive crazy professor had reappeared.

She looked away when he came over, coaxing Ellie to sit on her hand. Kira took a small pink cube out of her left pocket and offered it to the bird, holding it as she attepted to eat it. '... Soooo Creepy...' He wasn't exactly her favorite person, but she had learned to put up with him. But now, she would (hopefully) never have to see him again. Ever. Which was quite good in her book.

She happened to glance over when the Professor mentioned the murder case. It wasn't long after that he disappeared, but she was still letting Ellie finish her Pokeblock. "... So...?" She asked quietly. "NotLikeIHadAChoice..." she muttered under her breath. And this was partly true. The school would pick a certain number of cases and would find the student most fit for the case. So they had chosen this case in particular for Kira.

'...

...

...

There's sometthing I missed, isn't there...?'

She paused for a moment, running everything that had happened though her head, trying to catch what she missed. Then it hit her. Probably the most important thing she needed to do before starting an investigation. '... Oh. Shi-' But it had been her bnefit, or as she beleived, her misfortune, that Phoenix had caught her mistake. '...t'. ... She'd be kicking herself for that slip-up later. Or punching. Or any other painful verb ending with -ing. "The Detention Center... Right..." She moved her hand back to her shoulder, allowing Ellie to perch there for now. "Yeah.. Let's go."

(( Oh, I'm sure it's fine. Besides, we all make mistakes sometimes! c; ))

"I couldn't imagine why." Phoenix muttered more to himself than to her, watching as Kira scolded her wily parrot thing, before answering his question.
"Ah, heh, thanks." Nick said, thanking her for clearing it up for him, a tone of sheepishness in his tone.
"So? You have someone's life in your... oh, forget it. Nothing much we can do now, right?" Phoenix asked with a sigh, before looking down to the instructions, shaking his head.
"Well, let's get to the Detention Center and see just who we have to defend." Nick decided with her agreement, folding up the directions and tucking them into his pocket, heading down the street to the Detention Center to meet their unlucky client.

April 4, 10:56 am
Mauville Detention Center

The room was empty at first, a guard and what looked like a black and grey wolf were leaning against the wall by the door, looking up for a moment before going through the door to retrieve Phoenix and Kira's client.
"So, first case a murder. Heh, mine was, too. However, I was defending my friend." Phoenix mentioned to his apprentice of sorts, a small attempt to open himself up to her, and in turn, let her know a bit about him. After all, they were going to be stuck together for the entirety of the week, right? Might as well get to know each other a little bit. However, his attention was quickly taken when the door opened, and a vaguely familiar figure shuffled in.

"Yola, my men." Seth said weakly, traces of what sounded like a New Jersey accent in his voice, giving a small wave of his hands as he sat down, his hair still standing up in those short black liberty spikes, the torn white dress shirt and eyebrow piercing, and even the slightly tattered and fringed black slacks the same, his boots more noticeable now, and adorned with buckles and straps everywhere. However, his belt was noticeably missing the Pokeballs.
"... Hey, have we met before?" Phoenix asked, eying Seth up and down, before settling on his eyes, a brief look of surprise settling on Nick's face when he was able to see the beautifully done zebra print in his irises. Seth shrugged, scratching the back of his neck and looking away as he spoke.
"Eh, maybe. I do a lot of interviews and work with the people here..." Seth said, helping jog Nick's memory.
"Oh, right! Seth Zen, right?"
Seth nodded in agreement to Phoenix, giving a sad, humble smile as he did.
"Yeah, hero turned villain, it seems." Seth replied with a gloomy sigh.
"Seems like no one believes me when I said I didn't do it, though, or my Pokemon." Phoenix nodded slightly, and slid a hand into his pocket, gripping his Magatama.
"So, just to let me know. You, or your Pokemon killed that man?"
"No!" Seth quickly denied, slamming his hands down, looking to Phoenix and Kira with a look of desperateness, a plea for someone to believe he was truthful in his words.
"No, please. I might have been his rival, but I'd never kill him over it! Please, you have to believe me!" Seth begged, Phoenix remaining silent for a minute, waiting to see if any locks came into sight, giving a nod when there was none.
"I believe you." Nick replied, his voice a strong, but even tone. Seth looked to Phoenix, and a grin lit up his face, and if he could've, he probably would've hugged the lawyer then and there.
"Thanks, my man! Heck, you're the only ones here that seem to believe me anymore. Who are you, anyways?" Seth asked, finally realizing he had yet to meet the two people he was pleading his innocence to.
"I'm Phoenix Wright, and this here is Kira. We're your attorneys." Phoenix explained, introducing himself and gesturing to Kira as he introduced her as well, Seth giving a polite, but cheery smile and waving to her from behind the glass.

"Nice to meet 'cha both! I've sorta been hoping I'd get to talk to you soon." Seth greeted, tapping his chest with his fist twice as he spoke.
"Name's Seth, Seth Zen. Heh, but I guess you already knew that, my man." Seth added, introducing himself to his lawyers, stretching and putting his arms behind his back, leaning back a little in his chair.
"Please, if there's anything you want to ask me, anything at all, feel free to. I've got nothing to hide." Seth invited. Phoenix's eyes widened, watching as chains started snaking around Seth, and soon, six Psyche Locks appeared, nice and snug.
Oh, geez... Phoenix thought, giving a small gulp. So great, he did have something to hide. But... just what was it?
Guess I can't find out without asking first... Phoenix thought to himself, before clearing his throat and looking to Kira.
"Well, Kira?" Phoenix asked, "Would you like to ask your client anything?"

Mauville Detention Center

As soon as they entered the Detention Center, Kira's hand went into her pocket, pulling out a Pokeball that happened to be Ellie's. Wordlessly, she pressed the small grey button on the front, and the Chatot disappeared from her shoulder with a small beam of red light. She returned the ball to her pocket, but not after fishing for another.

Once Kira found it, she released the Pokemon inside. Where the red beam from this Pokeball touched the floor, a small cat-like animal appeared. It had soft, pale purple fur and a tail that was forked at the end. In the middle of its forehead was a small red gem. Lower on its face, it had two tufts of fur, like whiskers.

"Espe? Espeonnnn~?"

The Pokemon purred, following Kira with careful steps before jumping gracefully onto the ledge under the window that was shared by the room they were in and the room the client was in. The purple cat sat silently on the corner of the metal 'table', watching. Kira reluctantly sat down in the chair that was positioned to the Pokemon's side of the window.

Almost for enouragement, Kira set her hand on the cat's back, the Pokemon making no reply execpt its tail lying lazily over the human's arm. The pair listened intently as Phoenix and Seth talked, hoping to catch something useful. ... But as much as Kira hoped that this would be true, there was not much besides an 'I didn't kill him!'.

Phonix had introduced both himself and Kira, and the client had waved to her, Kira waving back. As soon as Seth had said he had nothing to hide, Kira could feel her Pokemon tense up.

"Espe! Espeon? Peon, espe? Espe?!"

She seemed to ask Phoenix something, but Kira didn't understand.

'...

...

Is there something....

I'm missing...?'

"Is there somthing wrong?" She asked quietly. It was unusual of Espeon to act like she did, and it was automatically a cause for Kira's concern. Her mind was focused on the sudden mood change of her Pokemon, causing Kira to miss Phoenix's question.

Looking over to Kira, Phoenix eyed the cat-like thing with some suspicion. After all, what if their client was allergic to cats or something? Besides, it looked rather... well, odd. And the fact that it started reacting the same time the Magatama in Phoenix's pocket reacted didn't help much.
"Um... Kira? Is your cat trying to talk to me?" Nick asked awkwardly, looking to the lavender colored beast, before looking to their client, who seemed a little on the edge. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead, and his spikes all seemed to twitch as he stared in a moment of either shock or surprise or maybe even horror as the Espeon started mewing.
"You... you have a Espeon, I see." Seth commented, staring at the tense animal, before knowing just the thing to do to try and diffuse the situation, plus possibly help the two lawyers.
"Hey, have you guys visited my Pokemon yet?" Seth asked, causing Phoenix to turn back to him.

"Well... No, we haven't." Nick admitted, and Seth frowned, giving a small whine.
"Aw, well, you should, my man! I don't want them getting lonely. Besides, they're charged with murder too! You should see all your clients, my man, even the Pokemon!" Seth said, flashing glances from Phoenix to Kira and her Espeon, a nervous look still in his face. Phoenix raised an eyebrow, saying nothing about his suddenly uneasy behavior, but instead focused his attention on getting Kira back to her job.

"Kira...?" Phoenix turned, waving a hand in front of her, before calling a bit louder, just to make sure her attention was on him again. "Kira!"
"Uh, Missy K?" Seth added, tapping on the glass, trying to get her attention off of her Psychic Pokemon.
"Kira, focus. Would you like to ask your client anything?" Phoenix asked again, looking back to Seth, who had calmed down considerably, once again leaning against the chair, hands on the back of his head.
"I'm open for anything, like I said." Seth added, this time, the Magatama not reacting, most likely because if asked, Seth seemed like the guy who'd confess if he was called out on something.

... Something was wrong, she knew it. But right now wasn't the time to think about it. Kira managed to get her Espeon to settle down, although how her Pokemon had reacted hadn't been reassuring. Now they were prompting her to ask questions. It took a moment before she could even think of one.

"So," she started, slightly nervous, "Where were you when all of this happened?" Kira felt a slight bit mre confident after asking her question. She never had really been great at the whole 'public speaking' thing. Her Pokemon's mood, thought wasn't helping much. It was almost like Phoenix had noticed something too... she'd have to ask about it later.

At Seth's last sentence, Kira expected her Pokemon to react again, but the Espeon stood quietly, looking at her trainer as if the human was crazy. 'Hm. I'm almost certain I'm missing something now. Thank God for Psychic types...' She waited long eonugh for him to reply before asking another question.

"How did you know the victim? I mean, everyone knows that the two of you were rivals..."

"I was in Victory Road." Seth confessed, bowing his head slightly as he spoke, a sheepish smile on his face.
"Uh, I don't know if you saw the other day my man, but Gabby from PokeMTV did an interview with me before I set off into Victory Road. I only just got down the homestretch when I saw the body." Their client explained, shuddering as he recalled the unpleasant memory, before lightly pressing his hands against his spikes, a look on his face of one trying to remember all the details of such a night.
"In all honesty, I panicked. I mean, my rival and his Pokemon slaughtered in front of the entrance? Not very pretty, my man. I tried to run out of Victory Road and get help from the Elite Four, but the second I got out of that cave and into the sunlight, I was arrested."
"So, you were on the scene of the crime, huh?" Phoenix asked, and Seth assured him with a nod, Phoenix feeling his stomach start to sink. Oi, this wasn't looking to good already...

Phoenix glanced over to the cat, watching it simply swish its tail, looking rather pristine and elegant in posture, despite the fact it was mewing at Nick only moments ago. Hm, it didn't seem to react to that statement, either... it was rather curious, Phoenix had to admit, but he planned on inquiring more about the critter later.

"Ah..." Seth cringed, his spikes again giving a twitch, his stringy muscles tensing.
"I knew Lief as an adversary of sorts in the race to become the next Pokemon Champion. The news caught onto it, so that's why it seems we actually know each other so well. But Lief Theaves was just a rival to me, nothing else."
Phoenix's eyes widened, the Magatama pulsing in his hands, and the chains started snaking from the darkness.
Is this it? That deeply guarded secret from before? Nick thought to himself as the Locks revealed themselves, but to Phoenix's surprise, it was only two locks, and just as they revealed themselves, they faded. Great, so this guy has more secrets than one? Phoenix sighed, and shook his head. Why did he always have to get the secretive, odd clients?
However, I basically have no evidence at this point, inquiring further would be fairly useless... Phoenix thought to himself in frustration, looking to the Espeon to see if it would mimic the actions it had before, like it could see the secrets locked up inside this man.

"So, Seth, want to fill us in on yourself...?" Nick asked, trailing off, his attention more focused on Kira's Espeon.
"Sure, my man!" Seth agreed with a grin, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small plastic card with a set of shining badges at the bottom.
"See here? It means I'm a trainer, and good enough a trainer to have beaten the Gym Leaders of all the different cities 'round here!" Seth explained, a bit of pride showing through in his oddly colored eyes.
"My Pokemon are wonderful, too. They mean the world to me! Oh, and becoming a Pokemon Champion. That, my man, is every Trainer's dream, but only a rare few get to get in that Hall of Fame."
Phoenix nodded absentmindedly, listening to what Seth had to say, making mental notes.

"About your Pokemon, Seth..."
"My crew? Oh, they're the best, my man, the best!" Seth absolutely beamed as he spoke, thrilled to get on one of his preferred topics.
"Good ol' Sammy was my first. Then Thrasher, Molly, and the rest came after. Love 'em to death, too! I don't see how anyone could accuse my Pokemon of... of doing something so horrible, though..." Seth's grin slowly faded at the thought, his card sliding into his pocket.
"I mean, they're sorta... intimidating on the outside, but they've all got hearts of gold! They'd never... never KILL something, someone... Now they're all alone in those awful kennels..." It was obvious this was hurting Seth a lot, and he was facing some major separation anxiety, so Phoenix tried to offer a grin.
"Hey, what if we go see them? I mean, maybe they can offer some clues-"
"You'd really do that, my man?!" Seth asked, automatically lightening up, his grin gaining in happiness at the offer.
"Uh... sure...?" Phoenix said not-so-assuredly, looking over to Kira, as if for help to back him up.
"What do you think, Kira? Would you like to go to the crime scene, or check out these kennels where Seth's Pokemon are?" Phoenix asked.

"Hm." Kira and her Espeon were paying close attention, the human, atleast, hoping to find something. When the client mentioned the interview, she nodded slightly, having seen it. As he continued, Kira notedthat he had been very close to the scene, and that wasn't good... right?

Seth began talking about Leif. As he finished his sentence, Espeon mewed again, but not as quickly or loudly as she had done before. The Pokemon looked back at Kira for a moment, then looked to Phoenix before it began to watch Seth again. Phoenix asked Seth about himself, and the boy pulled out his Trainer's card. 'Hm.' Kira mused, 'I've got one too... but who doesn't anymore?'

Once asked about his Pokemon, Seth lit up. Sammy, Thrasher, Molly... They had mentioned them before, on an interview she had seen previously, but Kira couldnt recall which species of Pokemon they were. Intimidating? That usually wasn't a particularly good thing to her, but Kira had no Pokemon that she considered intimidating.

Phoenix asked about wether they should travel to the crime scene, or visit the kennels. She thought for a moment before replying, "The kennels. Flying to the Elite For side of Ever Grande will be a half hour to an hour by Pidgeot if we're lucky." She paused, half expecting Seth to ask her about how she was going to get to Ever Grande if she didn't have her badges. She did have her eight Gym badges, and had even completed Victory Road before returning home for school. "And it'll take even longer," She continued, "If we use Surf... But that requires flying to atleast Sootopolis or Lilycove, possibly even Mossdeep... but those cities are easily twenty minutes away by flying, and in Sootopolis we'd need Dive..."

Kira really hadn't been too fond of the HM Dive. She had never been able to open her eyes underwater, and the Pokemon she had tought Surf and Dive to was, well... a very slow swimmer. Which was why she prefered flying to anything else, even to riding large Pokemon like Rapidash or Arcanine.

Espeon sat on her corner of the table like a small statue. Her tail flicked back and forth, almost like a metronome. Kira was still wondering why her Pokemon acted out, petting the small cat behind its ears as it purred quietly and rubbed its head into her hand.

Seth glanced to the Espeon again as it meowed aloud, eying the beast with a look of either admiration or discontent at its skills to peer through him, before settling back on Kira and Phoenix, though Phoenix was honestly not paying as much attention as he probably should. Looking to the Espeon, their eyes connected for a moment, before Nick turned away, instead staring at Kira. So it did see the locks, couldn't it? Hm, interesting indeed.

"Um..." Seth intercepted, clearing his throat awkwardly, bringing the blue suited lawyer's attention back to him, "I really do appreciate what your doing, by the way, my man. Uh, I know this is a little out of the blue, but I am. No one else wanted to take my case because of my upcoming profile and all, so I gave my case to the University in hopes they'd give me a good rookie..." Seth automatically looked to Kira, flashing his humble smile, before looking back to Nick, "But a rookie and a lawyer from overseas? That's better than I thought! So thanks, my man!"
"Oh, you're welcome..." Phoenix replied, a bit of joy in his voice at the sudden complement, however there was a bit of sorrow, probably from the fact that being someone's last hope for freedom when no one else believes you isn't the easiest of tasks. Sighing softly, Phoenix rose from his seat when Kira decided what she wanted to do, not understanding her chat about flying on pigeons and surfing across oceans, but simply pretended that he did.
"Uh-huh. So, let's go to those kennels, then..." Phoenix said, and with that, parted from their client, who waved a friendly farewell as they went to see his crew.

Pokemon Kennels and Detention

If "dog catcher" was the look the people here were going for, they were a little far off their target. Looking around before flashing his badge and gaining entrance to the sectioned off spot where Seth's supposedly dangerous Pokemon were being held, Nick looked around the place, from the thick glass tanks and the overly large bird cages, it looked more like a zoo right out of a kid's video game rather than a place where people would hold their pets.
"Say, Kira?" Looking over to Kira as they walked down an emptier section of hallway, which supposedly held all of Seth's Pokemon, "What was with your cat during the interview? Is it... or, uh, rather, does it have any psychic powers?" Sure, it was a bit of an odd question for Phoenix to suddenly bring up, but hey, it was the only thing that made sense.
"I mean, whenever Seth lied, your cat started freaking out." Nick added, looking into the cages. Empty, empty, empty...
"Oh my god!" Phoenix yelped, as something in a not-so-empty cage lunged forward, sharp claws trying to cut through the powerful steely mesh.

"Ursaring!" it snarled, claws clinking against the cage, but still, Nick backed up nervously, bumping into a hanging bird cage, disturbing the beast within.

"Fear! Fearow!" the large, almost vulture-like bird squawked in anger, stretching out its long neck and trying to nip Nick with its long, sharp beak, getting his shoulder before Phoenix turned with a yelp and backed off, the bird Pokemon turning back to preening itself, keeping its mind busy.
"Just what are these, Kira?!" Phoenix asked, narrowly avoiding a stream of fire from one of the cages, one of the beasts clinging to the fire tempered wire and snarling at the unfamiliar, untrained man.
"Ty! Typhlosion!?" it shook at its cage furiously, pitching another stream of fire at Nick, who was currently attempting to hide himself behind Kira.

"... You know Kira, I'm finding it hard to believe these things wouldn't kill someone." Nick remarked, nervously peeking down the rest of the line, catching sight of what looked like a large, mutant Walrus, something in a white room and... well, a grey person? Slowly stepping from Kira, Phoenix dared a peek, only to get another spook when the blue-grey beast-man-thing tried to chop through the cage.
"Maaaa! Machoke!" It barked at him, while the walrus thing seemed to be stirred up, giving a wail before pitching a burst of icy cold water at Phoenix. Backing up, Nick shot Kira a desperate HelpMeNOW look, bumping into the glass cage. Turning around to look inside, Phoenix stared at the beast inside, which just seem to be meditating, running its fingers over its two spoons.

Well, at least it's not trying to kill me... Phoenix thought to himself, but he thought too soon. The thin looking creature slowly opened its eyes, glowing with psychic energy.
"Alakazam!" it simply said in a menacing, slow and low tone, the spoons bending as Phoenix felt his feet leave the ground.
"KIRA! GET THIS THING TO LET ME DOWN!" Phoenix barked, not liking the feeling of simply floating in the air, especially when the Pokemon holding it could probably shake him like a rag doll if it so wanted.

"Huh?" Kira looked over when Phoenix mentioned her Espeon's abnormal behavior. "I... I really don't know. I mean, she's never done anything like that before..." She paused for a moment, looking down at the small Pokemon at her side. "She's Psychic type, but I don't know what would-" She stopped for a moment. "W-wait. Lying?" The Espeon looked up at her, almost expectantly before she began walking forward again.

"Hmmm. I would say...." She paused, "Pokemon. Ursaring, the Hibernator Pokemon. Fearow, the Beak Pokemon, and Typhlosion, the Volcano Pokemon, actually." It took a moment before she realized Phonix as hiding behind her. "Plus Machoke, the Superpower Pokemon, and Walrein, the Ice Break Pokemon." They seemed pretty high leveled to her, and yes, perfectly capable of hurting someone. "I don't see anything too out of place..." Even though all the Pokemon seemed quite upset with Phoenix. Trying not to burst out laughing, Kira looked away and down at her Espeon.

"Although the only reason I could think of that the Pokemon would be misbehaving would be an insufcient number of badges, but if he was going to the Elite Four, then there would be no problem..." She said as she watched the Typhlosion peer through the glass at her Espeon, and the small cat Pokemon look back.

As soon as Phoenix yelled, Kira turned around. "Hang on." She quickly rifled through her pocket before pulling out a small card, like a Credit Card, with eight small shiny peices on it. "Now. Put him down, alright?" With that, the Pokemona nodded, going back to its meditations. "And Alakazam, The Psi Pokemon." Kira said, holding the card for a moment before pocketing it.
